When I was in about 8th grade, a couple of friends and I were having a sleepover and we decided to walk to 7/11 at about 1 am. She lived in the sketchier part of our city. On the way back home from 7/11 the police drove by, and, being after the city’s curfew, we hid behind a couple cars. After they left, we were a little scared but kept walking. A car drove by but we didn’t think twice about it. The same car comes around the block and pulls over. 3 men get out of the car and began walking behind us. The five of us looked at each other and began to walk faster. We took a couple turns and they took the same turns. The began talking to us asking our age, what we’re doing out, how pretty we are. All five of us started to run and we sprinted back to her house. We took a shortcut through an alleyway to get back home faster. As I was running, I looked over my shoulder to see one of the men go back to get their car and the other two keep running after us.
We got back to her house and jumped through the window into her room. Once we were back, we locked all the doors and turned off all the lights. We all sat in the closet and cried. We didn’t call the police because we had snuck out, and would have gotten in trouble.
It’s still terrifying to think about what could have happened to us that night.
