I find I’m introduced into many people’s lives for a reason..

For some, I’m inspiration.
I have a love of countries and cultures beyond my own; a friend of mine, through listening to my talk about going to the places I’d love to see inspired him to live a forgotten dream of living in another country.

For some, I teach a lesson.
A former friend of mine approached me about a conflict of interests she was having, and asked for my opinion. One was move back home to Taiwan to learn Taiwanese, the other was to finish her associate’s degree, which she’d spent a lot of time and money on. I told her to finish school, because then she could go back, and she argued. She argued against every point I made, until I told her I didn’t care if she wasn’t going to accept my opinion (not as the correct one, but as my opinion) without weighing my reasoning objectively. She finished school, but we haven’t spoken in four years.

These are just examples.

I don’t claim to fix people. I have noted that in my life, I have found myself as an instrument for them to use in order to fix themselves. I don’t believe in a higher power, but I do believe people seek me out somehow, as if they subconsciously know I can help them.

I’ve been told by so many people that I always seem to know exactly what to say. I don’t know how someone with an aversion to people and social settings could have developed that kind of skill, and I don’t know if they’re right, or I’m just lucky. I guess if I’m helping, it doesn’t really matter.
