She was jealous of me in high school because I was named Editor in Chief of the school paper, and because my poem was chosen for Senior Poem at graduation. I was an unpopular geeky loser with no friends, so these accomplishments were huge to me. She was valedictorian but that wasn’t enough for her. She had to make me feel bad about succeeding at other things she wanted to claim as her own.
Now, over ten years later, she’s got an amazing job, a husband with an amazing job, and she’s expecting a baby. She’s never had to struggle financially a day in her life. She was able to go to college and get a degree. She’s well off.
Now I’m jealous of her. Aside from desperately clinging to the bright spots of my high school days, I guess I’ll always be the loser. It stings to admit it but I’m jealous. Why couldn’t I be the one with a charmed life? I’ve worked just as hard.
Siiiiigh.
