As an adolescent, I suffered from abdominal cramping during my period. It was no big deal, physical activity alleviated the pain and I dealt with it very little. As I aged, the cramping went away. I thought I was the luckiest girl in the world.
I don’t remember when the back pain started, I barely remember the time when I felt no pain. I remember a dull ache in my back, feeling like I was constipated when I wasn’t, feeling nauseated and starving at the same time. Now, however many years later, I get warning spasms three or four days before I’m due, and they make me really irate because it hurts so badly. This is recent, within the last couple of months. Then, the day I’m due, I wake up with horrible pain in my lower back. There have been days when I can’t get out of bed without utilizing all of my willpower. It carries on for three days, and then drops away to nothing. But those three days, I feel like someone’s kicked me in the back recently, sometimes like I’ve been hit with a car… and it’s getting to feel more and more like a car every month.
