It’s frustrating to me that our court system isn’t better tailored to victims. The process is confusing, scary, and overwhelming with very few answers or hope to understand it all. In addition, the process of court matters and the strain it puts on families, friends, support people is insane. I’m discovering the relational and emotional lines of everyone involved becomes, at times, even more increasingly blurred than the lines of jurisdiction and legalities. It so painful to be on the end of victim, either personally or as a parent and have no answers to comfort, heal, or educate. And so we stand ignorant and as blind as Lady Justice herself as our families stand with the blind leading the blind. Add in that the victim is a child and the odds are you are left feeling not only blind and ignorant but now crippled of the opportunity on how to parent your child through the foreign terrain of dates, extensions, motions, and arguments. In short, we are left with little to no hope of what to expect next. And that is a tragedy for every family, including mine.
