My sister hasn’t spoken to me in over two years. She chose her manipulative, emotionally abusive boyfriend over me. In short, she hates me because her boyfriend and I had s***** relations over two years ago. When I told her about it, her boyfriend denied everything and basically threatened to physically hurt me. I was genuinely terrified for my life and should have called the cops but I didn’t. Somehow she ended up forgiving him but not me. The affair happened because I was going through a “quarter-life crisis.” I was dealing with failure in my professional life and my personal life, which included having to have an abortion. I was depressed and weak. I needed support but was too afraid to reach out to my family. The s** meant absolutely nothing to me, and it was never done to hurt my sister. I just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I was empty, and he just happened to be there. In fact, he was the one who initiated it, perhaps sensing my vulnerability. It could have just as easily been with anyone else. Though I believe my sister is justified in how she feels about me and what I did, I cannot get past why she has forgiven him but not me. I am truly sorry for what I did and never meant to hurt her, and now I feel that her silence towards me is meant to intentionally hurt me. At this point, I believe she could very well go on for the rest of her life not speaking to me. Do I accept this and move on with my life, and pretend that I don’t have a sister for the next 60+ years? Is there hope for re-building our relationship? I don’t know…
