I’m in my 40’s, Married with kids & I have started to feel a huge amount of resentment for one of my best friends..around 17 years ago she lied to me about another girls feelings towards me, telling me that she wasn’t interested & would be “creeped out” if I told her how I felt… I was in love with this girl & it devastated me. In truth, that other girl loved me & was equally devastated that nothing had happened between us. We should have told each other & ignored my friend but if you can’t trust your best friend…?

This best friend & I are still friends & she doesn’t know that I know she lied to me. Recently my old crush got divorced & I can’t help but think that I should have been the one she married, that we were meant to be together…on one hand I’m upset for my friend (as a friend) that she is suffering through a divorce & on the other hand I hate my best friend for lying to me all those years ago & stopping 2 people from coming together that obviously belonged together.

Obviously I can’t bring it up because that would expose that fact that I’m still in love with my friend & want to leave my wife & kids for her..

Should I just tell this supposed best friend that I’m really effing pissed at her for lying to me all those years ago & risk being exposed or just pretend everything is fine & let this friendship desolve naturally…?
