I’m in my 30s, started with nothing, and now I am living the American upper-middle-class dream. I sacrificed my social life and body working two jobs and getting a Master’s degree in my 20s, and it’s been paying good dividends for five years now.
But lately I’ve noticed, I really, really look down on people my age who can’t seem to get their s*** together. My high school friends I keep in touch with – all with crappy jobs, either divorced or never married, and renting apartments still.
I participate in some online Progressive political blogs, and the other regulars there also can’t get their s*** together. They blame “the elites” for ruining their lives. But really, when you get to know them, it was their own bad decisions and bad luck that did them in.
I see now why people get a little stuck-up once they’ve “made it”. Because everyone else who hasn’t made it just seems to complain a lot, but never take responsibility for their own failures.
