A rant.

So, a family member I’ll call Anne has been planning for my husband and I to help her move some things to her new house this weekend – FOR TWO WEEKS. Yes, for two weeks she’s been planning this… but I heard about it through my mom. Anne only now, the night before, called to ask if we would be available to help. Well, we had already told my mom we would… but it REALLY ticks me off that Anne waited until the night before to call. I mean, hello? What would she have done if we’d had something to do tomorrow? She would have wanted us to change our plans, because that’s how she is. But we do love her. We agreed to help.

What annoys me even more is that she’s had a piece of furniture that we loaned to her at her old house, and I asked her to bring it to us when I learned she was planning to move an hour away. It would be easier for her to go ahead and bring it 10 miles instead of 40, and she agreed… but then flaked out (which she does all the time, in almost any situation). Not only that- She moved it to her new house without asking!! What the heck? I told her we need it because our other one is broken, and she does this? Why didn’t she just leave it at the old house ’til we could get it? This was two weeks ago, and she could have left it there. So, I ask Anne on the phone tonight, “Do you think we could get the piece of furniture while we’re at it tomorrow?”

What does she say? “Oh, we’ll TRY. I’m running short on money and my truck is almost out of gas, soooo…..”

The reason this TICKS ME OFF so much is that she’s been giving all her money to her drug-addicted nephew, every time he asks for it, and she constantly wastes her money on things she doesn’t need, like cable, manicures, new gadgets, new clothes, etc. while constantly complaining that she’s broke! AND she made a trip back and forth today, even though she could have easily saved that gas for tomorrow! She’s been planning this big moving day for TWO. FREAKING. WEEKS. She could have easily set aside enough money for gas because she knows there’s a lot of driving involved.

I love Anne, I really do. But she always seems to screw up any situation she’s involved in, and I really wish we had not agreed to help her tomorrow. I may end up saying something I regret. Plus, it’s my husband’s only day off work and he’s so tired, he should really stay home and rest up for the coming week. But no, if I know Anne it’ll be an all day event with countless needless detours and by the time we get home we’ll be so exhausted and pissed off we don’t even enjoy our Sunday night.

But hey, anything to help out family. Ugh.
