I really hate when something pretentious becomes super popular because the masses believe it’s “so deep” and “so meaningful” or “so different”, when really it’s just the same old vomited-up crap we’ve been seeing for years. I think it’s mostly because people just take what the media spoon-feeds them. If the media says it’s edgy, or uplifting, or exciting, then the people agree without question. They lack the ability to think for themselves or like something JUST because it appeals to their personal tastes.
