I think we’ve made life too complicated and what’s why everyone gets depressed so easily. We rely too much on technology, too much on processed food and drink, too much on other people and the government, and not enough on ourselves. I know people got depressed back in the old days, but I think when people worked outside in nature and made their own living off the land, and cherished family, friends and faith over new gadgets, celebrities and society’s fads, people were happier. It was a hard life but it was a good life because people appreciated what they had. People knew the value of hard work and all they needed for entertainment was to sit around the fire with their loved ones telling stories or singing songs. Now people can’t be happy with what they have so they try to get more and more.

Yeah, it’s a really screwed up society.

A friend of mine went on a mission trip to Africa. She told me about how the people in these third world countries suffer, how they go without the basic necessities we couldn’t go without- like fresh running water, electricity, and groceries. Or even more than one set of clothes. But she was amazed because most of the people she saw were so HAPPY. They were so happy with their lives, they were so close to their families and friends, and they were thankful for every little blessing that came their way.

I think in some ways those people are more blessed than we are.

And that’s my random thought for the day, I guess.
