oh my god i’ve figured out how i’m going to pass precalculus.

context: so i’m a sophomore, and i’m about to finish up an honors algebra ii class, that’s regarded as being almost impossible to pass, with an A. next semester, i’m taking precalculus. two teachers at my school teach it, one of them i had for honors geometry and algebra i, and the other teaches ap stats, algebra i, and precalc. however, because of my scheduling, i couldn’t have the former, so i was supposed to have the latter. HOWEVER, during the summer, this switched. now i have a completely different teacher.

this teacher is known for being genuinely the worst. obviously, i’m freaking out. i managed with my algebra ii teacher (who i realized was actually not bad), but this precalc teacher (who has, to my knowledge, only taught pre-algebra classes until this year) is known for being not good at teaching. people in my english class have her for algebra ii and they are literally failing (one literally told me that literally no one was passing, to their knowledge).

ok, so i’m thinking, “how the hell am i going to pass this class.” my only options are to either switch out of chemistry to take pre-calc w/ the teacher who i had for geometry and algebra i (who i literally loved cuz they were amazing at teaching) orrr i just struggle through the class and hope that i do well. until now, the only thing i had with me was that i was one of the only ones in my algebra ii class that was doing well, so hopefully this pre-calc class would be fine.

that was, until i realized: oh my god my school posts the syllabi for each of the classes. this teacher doesn’t have textbooks for the class, but that doesn’t necessarily mean i have to struggle through the class. HELLOOO, openstax literally gives textbooks for free.

ok, now i’m starting to work through it. so now, i just need to figure out what parts of the class i have (in terms of standards/indicators), find the material on openstax (and other resources, durr) and then organize everything on notion so that, by the next semester, i have a library of resources to pick from!!!

of course, my other alternatives is just recording the classes (secretly, cuz its not rlly allowed) and yaaa. this is genuinely so exciting!!!! i might also email my chemistry teacher (since they’re going on maternity leave when i’m in the class) to see how long they’ll be gone and who their replacement will be.
