I’m getting so sick of having to strain to see. Every day is a chore because of my worsening eyesight. Someone can be standing five feet away from me, and their face is a blur. I can’t read their expressions. This makes it difficult to interact with people. I don’t even like going anywhere because of it. In the grocery store I have to get right on top of a price tag to see what it says. If something is on a high shelf? Forget it. Low shelf? I’m on the floor, literally, trying to see. I almost have to touch my nose to my cell phone to see it. Computer screen, same thing.
I tried to get disability because there’s no way I can work like this, but I got a letter saying, “Oh, your eyesight isn’t that bad. Our ‘files’ indicate you can still work. So no financial help for you!”
It left me feeling broken and abandoned. I’m so helpless and so freaking useless. I hate this. Everyone tells me to try again, but I’m afraid to. I don’t know if I could handle all the red tape again.
Yet my aunt’s friend who is on disability for a “back injury” goes out and parties, dances, drinks, and does all kinds of lifting and stuff on her own time, but she still gets a check.
I wouldn’t be trying to get help if I didn’t need it, damn it. I hate being legally blind. I HATE IT. I want my eyesight back. But I have to pay the bills. I have to eat. I don’t know what to do.
Why did this have to happen to me? I’m only in my 20s. I’m too young to be going blind.
