I used to be an avid motorcyclist. This was mid to late 20’s. My bike was my sole transportation for years. I am a veteran of several solo coast to coast trips and was a MRSF rider coach. Then one day my bike, my friend, died. It was one of those failures that would cost twice as much to fix than the bike was worth. I ran the numbers and decided it was more economical to buy a used truck and drive it rather than walk everywhere or b** rides for the months it was needed to wait for parts and work on it when I was off, etc. I could not afford what the dealership and local mechanic would charge. There is also no public transportation where I live. Anyway, my friend sat in the garage collecting dust. Long story short, there it sat for going on four years. 90% of the time when I came home and parked in the garage I would say to myself “This weekend I will pull it out and at least wash it”, but things would come up, and excuses, excuses. Once in awhile I would go out and sit on it so she would at least remember who I was. Well, about a month ago I got a wild hair up my a** and actually pulled it out and washed it. Boy did she look good. Then, I got a new battery and changed the fluids, and all the other things needed to bring her back to life. I turned the key and she fired right up!! I cried with joy. I took a few small loops around the block to test the systems and everything worked. I decided to drive it to work for a week to help get back in the saddle.

The thing is, I was once know as a “expert rider”. Riding to work these last few days has scared the s*** out of me. I have lost balance control, shift timing, and the hundreds of other things it takes to ride smoothly. Cars merging or changing lanes make me sometimes panic. God help hitting potholes. What the hell happened? I used to ride effortlessly. I know it has been awhile but WTF?. I am getting better each day and remember my former training, which helps. It 33 miles from home to work. Tomorrow will mark day four of my a** back in the saddle. I hope I don’t have my 40th heart attack.
