I recently got a facebook account. Yes, I know I am the last person in the world to get one, and most people are actually leaving that website now. After about three weeks on that site, reconnecting with old high school friends – people I haven’t spoken to in 15 years – I realized I am literally the only one of the 40 or so people I’ve reconnect with that has any kind of success in life. And they are trying to make me feel guilty about it. I make great money (little over 200K this year) in a job I LOVE, with a wife I love and three beautiful children I love. Meanwhile, they’re all either divorced, never married, have criminal records, or working minimum-wage jobs. And they try to make me feel guilty for my success. What am I supposed to say? I’m sorry that I made better choices than you? I’m sorry that, while you were partying through high school, I was actually paying attention and thinking of the future? I’m sorry that I have a career I love that happens to pay well, and you can’t keep a minimum-wage job? I’m sorry that I waited until I could afford kids to have them? I’m sorry that I love my wife enough to treat her with respect and not cheat on her? That I have control over my horomones? I just realized, maybe there’s a reason I lost touch with these people in the first place.
