I wish I had a dad. Yes, I have a father; my mother has a spouse, and my siblings have a man in their life. But he is not a dad. He doesn’t abuse us physically or verbally, but he treats us so that I feel emotionally bruised. I know my family feels the same way. I hear the way my teachers talk excitedly about their young children, or the way my hockey coach wraps an arm around his daughter’s shoulder. I wish my father kissed my mother for no reason at all, or turned off the tv to ask her how her day was. I want my brother and sister to admire him, and follow him. But they don’t, because he gives them nothing to follow. He is an angry, lazy d*** who likes to call my mother a b**** when he’s mad. I just wish I could fix whatever’s broken inside of him.
