Important tech tip and why you SHOULD be checking on your own personal information that’s online, and why you should NOT only rely on Google:
The company I work for has one IT guy and his sole function is to screen potential hires as well as current employees. This is not just social media and a google search of name only. They use multiple search engines (bing, safari, yahoo, etc) and add keywords to your name such as (your name) plus the city or cities you’ve lived in, or your current or past employers or your name plus your job or professional title. Sometimes they may even search your name plus that of your spouse or any domestic partners and their place of employment. You would be surprised at the additional amount of information that can be found that may not show up in a traditional background check using these methods and it can have an impact on whether or not a company will choose to hire you, among other things it could affect. Also hiring managers are not the only ones who do this. Landlords screening potential tenants, private investigators, even law enforcement as well as divorce attorneys may use information found to at a minimum give them an idea of something that may require further clarification.
