Let me start by saying that I’m male. I’ve had self-esteem issues all my life, and, up until 12 years ago, had lost hope that anyone would ever find me attractive.

I entered into a relationship with a young lady who indicated she was…. and by her actions, she was right. However, the relationship progressed at a pace I was completely uncomfortable with, but I felt like I couldn’t say no, because I was worried that she would leave me. On some occasions I would try to be assertive… but it never worked out. I was emotionally broken. Finally, she got tired of me and moved on to someone that had more of a drive than me.

I attempted suicide shortly afterwards, and was very nearly successful. I was in the hospital for a week before they considered me stable enough to take me to their mental area, where I stayed for two months. Today is the 10-year anniversary of the break-up. To this day, I’ve not only been single, I’ve been celibate.
