So we’re doing it. We’re finally moving out. My husband and I are finally moving out and getting our own place. The reality of my mother probably losing her house to foreclosure is the push. We’ve been meaning to, but we’ve been afraid that we can’t make it. Well, we’re going to try.

On one hand I’m excited. Finally, we’ll have our own place. Privacy. We can do what we please, decorate how we please, and it’ll be just us on our own together.

And on an even bigger note… I’ll miss living with my sweet mother, but FINALLY No more living with my pig of a sister. No more cleaning up her messes, having her thanklessly eat the groceries we buy, leave dishes with food rotting everywhere, no more having her attitude make me miserable, no more having to lock up our stuff and put a security camera in our bedroom to make sure she doesn’t invade our privacy and steal from us. No more having her stomp down the hallway all through the night and wake us up. No more having her mooch off us constantly and take, take, take.

But I feel guilty. Because I’m leaving my mother to deal with her alone. Mother was strong at first. She said, “She’s not going to live with me when I lose the house. Wherever I go, she’ll have to find some other place to go.”

But now it’s different. Now my sweet mother is afraid of being alone, so she’s relented. “She can live with me, but she’ll have to make some changes.”

But She knows as well as I do that my sister is not going to change. She’s 32 years old. She’s a lying, thieving, lazy mooch with no consideration for others. She’s engaged in some kind of illegal activity, I’ve no doubt. She will sponge off my mother and rule her life unless my mother puts her foot down and kicks her out… then she’ll probably come try to sponge off us. I know it’ll be hard when she starts her sob story, but I can’t deal with her anymore. If she ends up living on the streets and doing drugs, it’s not my fault for not letting her take advantage of me.

I love my sister, I do. But I wash my hands of her. I can’t spend my life worrying about her and letting her push me around. I can’t make my mother stand up to her, and nothing I say to my sister will make her any different.

I pray that my mother will grow strong enough to boot my sister out. I pray that my sister will grow a conscience. But I’ll be so glad to be away from her.

Does this make me a bad person?
