Right after Highscool I got a job at McDonalds. And I regret so many things about that but that’s a story for another time. Anyways, about a year into working at this McDonalds I’ve become bitter with life and honestly I just had no fucks to give. I was on first window taking orders and the money. This guy pulls up in a Mercedes, orders a an egg McMuffin, and a Large nonfat soy latte. The problem with this order is that McDonalds, atleast during the time and place I worked at did not have a soy milk option. I’m pretty sure they still don’t but whatever. In my mind I was like wait what. I asked for him to repeat the second part of his order, which he did after scoffing at me. I laughed at him and said this isn’t Starbucks. He pulled away from the speaker straight up to the window. And the moment he got there I knew exactly what kind of person he was. A trust fund baby. Anyways he goes “What’s that supposed to mean!!?!?!” He angrily snarled. And I went “Exactly what it’s supposed to mean, this is MC-D-O-N-A-L-D-S not Starbucks” also to add in a lot of McDonalds have things based on their region, like in japan you can order a McLobster, in certain US chains the McRib is available all year round etc so being that the one I worked in was literally in the middle of bumfuck cousin f****** country, there was absolutely no chance our store would ever have “soy milk” as an option. Which is something I eluded to with this guy. I said “look around you, how many farms did you pass to get to this place?” “How many tractors did you see in the parking lot when you pulled in?” “What on God’s green earth possessed you to think we would have soy milk” the guy was speechless, for a second. He started to stutter and goes “well this is just bad business and I’m going to report you to your manager, you could have just told me that you don’t carry soy milk without the attitude” And you know what, he was absolutely right. But I didn’t care, he probably has loved his whole life talking down to others and now that the shoe was on the other foot it didn’t feel so good. I implored him to report me as I f****** hated this job anyways and was thinking about quitting that day already. Unbeknownst to me, the GM who adored me as I was one of few employees that was worth anything, was right behind me for this entire exchange. So after the guy drove off without getting his precious Soy latte, she pulled me into her office. She didn’t even bring up what had just happened between me and the Douchetron 3000. The only thing she was concerned with was that I was thinking about leaving. She knew that she couldn’t afford to let me leave, I was the only one who could work any shift and the only one that knew how to do every station without help. I wAs basically a really good utility player (sports reference for the win :)) She offered me a 3$ raise to stay. I quit a year later after that GM left and the AGM was promoted. Because the AGM was a d*** that would write you up for being two minutes early and say you were late. I was 20 I didn’t need that kind of stress. Anyways I hope Douchetron 3000 got his soy latte and it was cold.
