My father just does not understand. I try to work on my scouts stuff in the time I have (which is very little might I add), and no matter how much work I do, it’s always a question “Why didn’t you do more? All I ask is that you put a little effort into doing more work, but no i can’t even get that out of you.” He doesn’t understand that besides scouts, I have school, clubs, sports, friends, hobbies, all of which take up hours and hours and hours of my day. It’s as if he expects me to reach Eagle by next week, and I simply can’t work that fast. He constantly goes into a passive aggressive stance, and when I try to work with him, he has none of it, and I am constantly wrong, and I can only do exactly as he says. When I try to voice my opinion on something, I am wrong, and he flips out at me. My parents wonder why I try to stay upstairs, away from them as much as I can, and nine times out of ten, its because of him. I try to do the work, but it’s never good enough for him. I just can’t have a normal conversation about something without it turning into a life lesson, pointing out what I do wrong. There is rarely a time where he says “Okay the work you’re doing there is fantastic, but let’s see if I can help you work through this part.” It’s always, “No, just listen: you’re not doing what I’m saying to. If you would just listen to me once in awhile, I wouldn’t have to nag you all the time.” I just hate it.
