My husband is from Europe. I live in the deep southern USA. Before he moved here, he didn’t believe my complaints about (most of the) black people in my area. He thought I was exaggerating or that I was making it up because I have racist tendencies (not true. I’m not racist, I swear- although most people assume it when they hear I’m from the south and white). However, now that he’s lived here for 3 years and has dealt with them on a daily basis at work, he agrees with everything I’ve said and knows it’s all true. He knows also how we can’t talk about it to anyone else.

The majority of black folks in my area act a certain way, which makes it very difficult to deal with them. But it’s something all white folks here have to smile and deal with, because usually if anything is said we’re accused of being racist. We are treated like crap because we’re white but we can’t do anything about it. No one believes it. It’s just the way the world works.
