I was not very popular in high school. I hung out with a small core group of friends, mostly because we were all the rejects. It was the late 90s. There were four of us – three guys, including me, and one girl. I was the only straight one in the bunch.
After high school, we all went our separate ways. I moved the furthest away – about 1,500 miles. I kept in touch with them with a letter or email once every year or so.
Then this year I got Facebook, and we’ve reconnected to the point that I chat with them almost every day.
Here’s what bothers me: They are all Liberal. With the election coming up, they won’t stop talking about how bad Conservatives are. They base their entire political leanings on their status as gays. Yet they can’t see the truth right before their eyes.
I am a Conservative. Of all four of us, I am the only one who is in a stable relationship, has a real career, and isn’t living paycheck-to-paycheck. It’s so frustrating to hear them talk about voting for Democrats, yet they can’t see how they’ve been doing that for almost 20 years now, and it’s not helping them at all.
Maybe they would have a little more success in life if they altered their political and social views.
