I saw my buddy at a place today for work. He’s a guitar fan and player too. He was always psyched for my vids I’d show him as far back as the mid 00’s. Playing my SG bed be like “you’re give me a hard on…”

I haven’t seen him in a while. So I go in there today, shooting the s*** he’s telling me about these dudes who were busking in the area recently with violins… Asked me if I saw them. The catch is they weren’t really playing. He could tell it wasn’t real but people were buying it, giving them money. East Indians. He’s like b*******. Me and you (well more you) we practice, and we play, nobody’s perfect and that’s the way it goes. These guys were pretending to play violin. He could tell.

Then out of the blue he goes “what’s your favorite Van Halen song?…” I said “Man, it’s funny you shod ask that…” Broke out the phone “Unchained…”

Then he rolled into the classic question he always has “Who’s better Eddie Van Halen OR Randy Rhoads?”

Personally I’m not much of a fan of Randy. Not that he was a bad guitarist, and I am a fan of Ozzy, just not that much of a fan. I was never really big Randy’s recorded tone, which was limited by technology of the time. Crazy Train sounds like s*** IMO. They were both great but I told him “if you asked Eddie that question, he would have told you everything Randy did, he copped of him…” They were rivals back in the day. Randy in Quiet Riot. Eddie and David Lee Roth would roll up and pick on him. They’d get dirty. S*** talk him. Apparently Randy asked Eddie one time how he used the tremolo bar, before the Floyd Rose Locking vibrato was invented, how he used it and kept the guitar in tune? Eddie refused to tell him the tricks he used.

Which, It was a rivalry to Eddie, but Randy admired Eddie and consciously tried not to do things Eddie did.
