That’s what we do at my hospital too. I mark their chart as a ‘Combative’ patient and put them in restraints. Usually male patients. I prefer NPO so I don’t have to worry about bowel movements. I put a catheter up their c***, left exposed so it can be checked. IV line for hydration and push. S********** get blankets wrapped with IPC cuffs to prevent muscle cramps. Blanket and gown over the chest down to waist. Taping eyes shut calms them down and eliminates objections about who’s in the room seeing their c*** with the catheter hanging out.

The only alternative is to medicate them which may interfere with treatment and other meds. I prefer using the restraints. Absolute control. It’s a better choice and good psychological training.
