I absolutely agree. Cultural appropriation, is not to be lightly used and thrown around accusing others. But there are few instances which are genuinely bad such as black face or brown face in movies or white washing things. A documentary depicted Attila the Hun as white with no epicanthic features, when its clear that Atilla had east Asian features as described by historians of the medieval times.
When it comes to clothes and hairstyles as mere fashion statements though, that is not cultural appropriation or misappropriation. But suppose one wrongly depicts something which is inaccurate then that is bad. Suppose a bunch of white people wear a samurai costume to a party, no problem. Suppose they wear a samurai costume and put tape on their eyes to make it look epicanthic and they go around doing stupid things, they’re making fun of Japanese people whether intentional or not, And thus they are doing wrong.
