I want to do something to really make a difference in people’s lives. I’d like to become a prison advocate, where I work with both male and female prisoners and help them with renentry into the community both before and after them leaving prison. Like being a friend to them. Help them find housing, secure medical care, counseling for the traumas they may have experienced in prison, help them with jobs and education, reuniting them with their children, getting benefits due to them. I would just sit there and talk with them, they telling me as little or as much as they like, hold their hands, hug them, and show them someone cares. And whatever they told me, I’d keep in my mind only. Hell, I wouldn’t even forcer them to tell me what they did- when they trusted me enough, they would. And it wouldn’t really matter to me- I’d like them just the same.
What I’ve learned over the years is that if you look deeply into a person’s eyes, you can see all their pain. That’s why most avoid eye contact. Also, is that when someone does something wrong, it is usually a cry for help and instead of humiliating and punishing people which makes their self esteem and chances for a successful future lower, we should show them love.
