I’m a psychiatrist, and I have fallen in love with a client. In my 11 years of practice, this has never happened. It’s not necessarily s***** love, but it is close- I don’t fantasize about her but I feel deeply connected to her, as if we had been best friends with romantic undertones since childhood. It feels as if we have just found each other again, after missing each other for years. I am in a serious relationship with a wonderful woman and have no plans to leave her. Furthermore, this client is in early recovery from opiates among other serious personal concerns, and not anywhere near stable enough for a relationship. I don’t care at all. For the first time in my life, I love without haste, without judgement. She is an incredibly beautiful person and I am grateful for and in awe of our connection, even though it occupies so much of my mind and jeopardizes my career and possibly my relationship with my girlfriend. Thank you for showing me what it can be like, friend.
