Do you know what CTE is? It’s a neurodegenerative condition similar to dementia that is allegedly caused by both concussive and nonconcussive blows to the head. Now don’t get me wrong, it takes many of these for this condition to happen, I’m talking rugby players who ram head first into someone every match and boxers who get hit in the head many times every round. And I have had, like, two concussions in my 20 years of life, and yet this thing is scary to me. I don’t want to lose all cognitive function in my 30s. And yet I also feel vaguely suicidal from time to time, as a final screw-off button against everything and everyone. I fiddle with the metaphorical trigger but never go through with it. I don’t think I will, either. It’s a bit wild to be stuck between wanting to live and wanting to die. I hope the former wins out eventually. What I’m trying to say is: don’t get hit in the head. And if you’re looking for a reason to seek out therapy, then I am that reason, now. It’s done me decent good so far. It’ll do you good too, hopefully.
