I’ve been feeling disconnected from my partner for a week now. We’re long distance. I feel that they don’t love me as much as they used to. I’ve tried communicating this to them, but all they can do with this distance is give me words of affirmation, which personally does not do anything for me. I feel forgotten, and not prioritized. Yes, we both have busy schedules, work and uni things, but that doesn’t mean that they cant put some form of effort to show that they care right? A simple random text during the day, a short call just to say that they love me, is that a lot? Pretty sure it takes less than a minute to text “Thinking of you, I love you”.

I always end up hearing from them when the day is about to end, late at night, when I usually start to wind down and prefer some time alone. Sometimes I’m afraid that I’m asking too much. But sometimes I feel that it’s not that crazy, cause I do that occasionally too. Long distance is already difficult as it is, and the lack of communication and effort just makes it worse. I’m afraid that I would impulsively break up with them. I’m afraid that I’d go and seek the attention that I’m not getting from elsewhere. I don’t ever want to do that obviously, but I’m getting really tired of waiting and asking for the bare minimum. It’s not like we’re just casually dating, we’ve been together for almost half a year now. I occupy myself pretty well, doing what I should do, doing what I enjoy, all without them. So it’s not like my life revolves around them.

Why be in a relationship when you can’t take your partner’s interests and needs as your own? It hurts to repeatedly go through the cycle of me feeling unloved, me being distant, us engaging in a conflict, us reconciling, me feeling completely loved again, me being forgotten gradually, and before I know it, I’m back to the start. The only thing I am capable of doing right now is to start being distant again. I’m tired of this cycle, I want to make a change. But I’m not sure what exactly should I change to feel better.
