I am living in a homophobic country. 19 years I’ve lived in a society that has always been vocal about their hatred towards gay people. And it’s destroying me. Sometimes I feel like fleeing this country with my girlfriend so we could just be ourselves. F*** these people. But I also love my family, I don’t have the heart to leave them behind, and I know they’d be disappointed if they knew I was gay. They are the reason why I am here today, about to get into a medical school, and achieve great things. It’s a big, painful dilemma for me.
