I go to a really small private school (like really small, there’s only about 30 people in the whole middle school), and I’m pretty sure most of them hate me. I don’t have very many friends and I feel really alone. When I’m sad, it’s just so nice to curl up on my bed, load up some anime, and lose myself in another world. I can forget about all of my problems in real life and actually be happy. The people in these shows feel more real to me than the people in my class. I know them better than anybody at my school, even though they aren’t real. They’re my real friends, not the stupid kids in my grade who think racist jokes are hilarious. In some ways, these animes are my reality. I don’t know if anybody out there reading this understands, but it feels so horrible to be separated from the reality you wish you were in. I wish so badly I could be a ninja in Naruto and learn awesome jutsu, or live in the world of Dr Stone and rebuild humanity from the ground up. But more than that, I wish that these “friends” of mine were real. I wish I could talk to them, get to know them, go on adventures with them. But I can’t, and I never will, and it’s so soul-crushingly hopeless to know that your dream is literally impossible.
