A few years ago I bought a house in a new suburb of a town in which thousands of new homes are being built over the last few years. After I moved in, I realised that the area didn’t have any internet presence yet. To get it started I created and populated a wikipedia page about the the new suburb. Most of the article was fact, with solid evidence to back it up, but I added a few things I’d made up mostly as a way to float some ideas without making it obvious they were my own ideas (saying they were thinking of building a railway station in the suburb, a new school etc.).

Fast foward a couple of years, I’m now the chair of the local council for the suburb and I’ve started getting people asking me questions about the railway station, new school etc. Basically, some b******* I floated on the internet few years ago is now coming back to me as fact and I’m expected to do something about it!
