I have lived with my best friend and her fiancee for about 6 years now. In that time, we’ve moved houses on 3 occassions and now live in a home the two of them own with our combined 2 dogs and 4 cats. My best friend and I immediately clicked upon meeting and quickly became as thick as thieves. I’ve never been this transparent and comfortable with someone in my life. She has been dating her fiancee for 8 years now, and he proposed marriage 1 year ago. I’ve been here for so long feeling so lucky they would invite me into their home and embrace me into their lives to the point that they plan 10+ years into the future with me as a part of their pack. I want to say my confession is that I find myself falling in love with my best friend at the most inopportune time, but honestly I knew I loved her very early on in our relationship. I found a voice diary of myself noting that I was falling in love with her 5½ years ago. My love for her is not new. The real confession is that I find myself fantasizing moments with her that are… not platonic. Let me say that I do not believe intimacy is inherently romantic. I believe that sharing intimate moments to strengthen a relationship is a practice that can be (and I think should be) kept between friends. That being said, the places to which my mind wanders at times when I’m looking at her is not innocent, and the intimacy I imagine us sharing is not platonic in nature. It’s not always explicit either, but it is definitely not the way I daydream about my other friends. For me, it takes a lot to build an intimate connection deep enough to fantasize about a partner. I mean, after all, it took me 6 years to begin fantasizing about the friend in question!
