In the morning I have to tell my employees that our business must soon close. The owner phoned me this afternoon and told me we have less than 30 days to remain open. I am thinking of the workers: a woman 3 months pregnant, a man of 59 years of age that thought he would retire with this company, several people for whom this job is their only means of support and for whom this will create so many financial issues. I have a clause in my contract that means the company must pay me for two years’ salary, but I am going to instead request that the money is divided somehow among these people. I will be just fine without it – but I know many of the workers will not be fine. Now I just have to convince the owner to do this or figure a way to get them the money myself. It won’t be much considering the number of employees we have, but at least it will maybe pay a bill here and there. I hate this so much and I know I won’t sleep tonight.
