I don’t understand why people would get upset if I say something along the lines of “I don’t see people in color/race.”
I just don’t. I am half white, half Mexican, raised in a non racist area with a decent mix of ethnicity. I appear white. I am labeled white. My best friend is black and I’m married to a Philipino.
And if I ever try to say something along the lines of, I don’t see color/race, people flip out, or say “Riiight” and I just don’t understand. Is it because the one saying it(me) appears white? Am I doing something wrong? Should I be looking for races of people instead of seeing a human?
Honestly speaking for me, race is seen after I meet the person. And i’m glad for that. I don’t like when people try to tell me i’m wrong, but at the same time I’d like to understand why they feel that way.
Yes, everyone has their own race, but being one race or another doesn’t grant you special privileges against another human being. Maybe in society because we have a racist society but against another human… I don’t think so. Does this make sense?
I’m just so tired of racism and hate. Everyone needs to get over it.
