I went on a road trip to a family reunion. It was a very long and taxing visit. On the last day my immediate family and I were back around the fire and discussing the day. I was enjoying the conversation until I would go to give my input and everyone would interrupt and speak over me. I soon became irritated and instead of trying to express my irritation with not being heard, thinking I would come off too harsh, I instead walked away to the restroom for a breather. I ended up walking the entire campground. Once I was away I felt very sad that no one cared to hear what I thought. Then started to question my entire existence and the people around me. For a fleeting moment I thought to leave everything behind and start again. It became clear to me how people could even contemplate such a choice. How people can just walk away from everything in their life and start over. I know I could do it, and I’m sure I could find more compassionate and empathetic people to surround myself with. After some deep thought, I decided I have worked too hard to get to where I am currently. I can change the things in my current situation starting now. I do not have to start all over to make things better. I looked at my exit path and how it would be so easy to just vanish from this current life path. I then realized I had been away from my family for over half and hour and walked back. Much to my surprise they were looking for me and suddenly very interested in what I had to say. They will never know I had a moment in time that could have greatly changed my life forever. I’m glad I was able to see clearly and not make that life changing choice. I feel for others who have walked away from everything, leaving family and friends to question what happened. Talk to someone about it. Even a complete stranger or someone who can keep a neutral prospective. Most likely your family/friends don’t know how you are feeling.
