I feel that by now I should have learned to not just assume things will work out. Once again, I am utterly screwed and she will be out of the office for the next three weeks. Hopefully she has a great vacation while this is hanging over my head with no apparent solution.
This is terribly vague: let me give you some background.
I turned in an application for a letter of recommendation to someone I had never met and I had never actually spoken with her so I decided to come to her office hours later as I could not stay the day the application was due. She then emailed me telling me to come meet with her, as I had planned to. I didn’t respond and just planned to meet with her tomorrow (she sent the email a few days ago). I came home to an email from her, which came off as rude, telling me that I apparently didn’t need the letter since I had not responded. I was upset but replied, even apologized for not responding, and explained my plan to see her tomorrow. I then got one of those automated letters telling me that she will be out of the office tomorrow and will be back in the middle of next month. And also it wished me a great day.
This felt like a slap in the face and then a cowardly retreat. I am upset but there is nothing I could say to fix this. Now, even if she writes the letter it will be based on my first impression to her and she obviously thinks me an idiotic child.
Lovely.
