Need to get this out because I don’t have anyone to talk to.

My wife asked for a divorce some time ago. We got busy and have only barely talked about it. It seemed like she expected me to make all the arrangements without saying so. I figured that since she asked for it she was responsible for making it happen.

During this time she has started seeing another man and tried to hide it. Technical infidelity since nothing has been filed yet. I found out today when I came across a love letter from him to her. Seems like they’ve been planning out what to do once the divorce is finalized for some time now.

Insult on injury when I pulled the papers to start filing I found out some interesting things. Seems my state recently changed its divorce laws and removed grounds for divorce. Now regardless of the circumstances all divorces are the same. Infidelity or no I’m obligated to pay. In crunching the numbers I am on the hook to pay her out over $60,000 up front + over $2000/mo. in alimony + $800/mo. in child support on the low end. As we are a typical family we have few cash reserves meaning I am facing almost complete financial ruin just so she can get her freedom and money.

The only thing I did wrong was to love this woman and marry her. Now that our relationship has run its course I get punished as though marriage and divorce was some sort of crime.
