I HATE when the local news here in Chicago says things like “19 people were killed and 70 other shot in violence over the weekend.” I really wish they would tell the truth, which is: “Seventy people who were living a high-risk lifestyle, with gang affiliations, were shot while they were out in bad neighborhoods too late and, frankly, they were asking for it. Nineteen of them were killed, so that’s 19 fewer gang members on the street.”
Then they always interview the mother of one of the victims (never the father, for obvious reasons), with some unpronounceable name. The mother, who looks like she is in her 20s, complaining about the violence and why her teenage children can’t play at the playground at night. Nevermind that they were shot at midnight. What were your teens doing at the playground at midnight anyway?
And you have no right to complain. You live in a s***** neighborhood. Move if you want a safer place. People who live in the ghetto, and act ghetto, and complain about it being a ghetto, are like people who move to Alaska and complain about the cold. It’s what you get for living there.
No, you aren’t trapped there. Apartments in my part of Chicago are affordable. You might have to get off of your a** and look a little.
I live within the city limits of Chicago. I sit on my deck in my backyard every night. No gunshots, no screaming, barely and cars driving by. But you never hear about this side of Chicago. Only the criminals get the stories.
