That’s an interesting rivalry though.

Eddie Van Halen vs Randy Rhoads. The thing about it though is Randy was always honest about it. He’s like I play things live and It’s what Eddie is doing, and he doesn’t like it, but he straight up says, he hasn’t had the time to developed a style of his own. I think Zak Wylde talked about that one time, where how when he joined Ozzy, he made a conscious decision at what he would do, or wouldn’t do because a member ne else did it. Vibrato bar, or specific effects, sounds, specifically chose ways of being. BUT Randy apparently was flipped out when he saw Van Halen for the first time, according to his girlfriend. Cut him off at the knees. He was humbled. It hit him negatively. Apparently he never went to Van Halen shows, but they would see Eddie and Roth at Quiet Riot shows. Probably to scope it out.

They would razz Randy. Literally pull up on him and his girlfriend while he’s moving amps. Apparently one time Randy’s Girlfriend walked over and smacked Dave in the face.

To Eddies credit, Randy went to a record store at the time Blizzard of Oz, Ozzy’s first solo record, he went to the record store for some classical records, that’s what he was and a teacher, who’s in there buying Blizzard of Ozzy? Eddie Van Halen. 1982. Well into Van Halen’s take and popularity. Does rivalry matter at that point? Also though, it’s Ozzy. Eddie was an Sabbath, Ozzy fan, it’s his first solo album, but yeah… He called Randy “good”. I have heard VH described as fiercely driven. Very f****** persistent.
