GUITAR CONT…. I don’t think “wow, I wish I had that” I’m thinking “Why should I want that? What makes that guitar, better than what I already own?” If anything I’m not even sure the would coming out of it would be suited toward the majority of what I like to play. It’s a replica of a 1959 guitar and besides that, if you owned one of those, it’s a guarantee it won’t be leaving your house. Are you going to take that out to you local dive bar and crank out some cover tunes with your band? Are you insane? It’s not leaving your house, it’s for your own pleasure.
But yeah, I also believe that when it comes right down to it, how “good” a guitar is, is in the setup. You could get any Gibson guitar USA, Custom Shop, whatever, unbox it and start playing, apparently it should be set up and ready to go out of the box, but I think that’s b*******. It’s set up to specs, but is it set up for you? You pick, string size, how you attack the strings? No. It isn’t. If you can’t set up or understand how these things should be set up, it might not be great out of the box. Maybe it is by fluke, but you should know what you need to do with neck straightness, string height, pickup height, setting the intonation, etc.
The guitars construction matters too. The neck joint, is it glued in properly, straight, at the right angle, does everything line up, of course that matters, but is a $50,000 guitar any better than my Les Paul Studio? The Les Paul Studio is currently list price of $2150 with a gig bag not even a hard case, which is too expensive. Maybe not, but you know.
