When I was younger, between 6-10, my mom slapped me in the face because I got a bad grade and the school sent a note. She yelled at me, very close to my face, saying “I will be arrested because of you” (because “I made her feel angry”). I believe that you may not have control over your emotions but you do have control over how you do with them. It was neither my fault neither my responsibility that she had no emotional intelligence. I confess this because that memory have a consequence on me today. I tend to not argue with people, I tend to not express my opinion out loud, I tend to not respond and I am tired of that, because of that event on my childhood. My body and mind are scared that someone will hit me (again) for expressing my opinion, expressing my disagreement with someone… My body and mind are just protecting me from getting hurt again but I do not want to live quiet, I do not want to live hiding and swallowing up my feelings and thoughts. I am too smart for that. I guess I will have to learn again. Learn that talking is ok and, as a human, my opinion counts too.
PD: Is physical punishment an appropriate way to discipline/punish a kid? Slapping/punching your son/daughter even if s/he is crying?
That is a negative way to learn in my opinion.
