I am straight. I know this. There was a time when I was younger when I didn’t know this. I was a little worried that I might somehow discover that I was gay. Why? Two reasons. big ones. One is that I used to love to dress up as a woman. BINGO! You are saying. Just keep reading. Second, I actually messed around s******* with boys when I was a boy. BINGO AGAIN! Not so fast. I have NEVER had a dream where I was with a man s*******. Not once. And many, many, many where I have been with women; or almost with women; or otherwise involving women in a s***** way. And ditto for day-dreaming. And I have had opportunities in my adult life for fooling around with guys, even to people I really care for, but have been repulsed, almost in a gag reflex. I know I don’t have any latent homosexual tendencies. But even if I did. Even if I could have gone that way on a drunken night, it is now irrelevant. I am committed. I am a happily married heterosexual, in a 20 year relationship with my soul-mate. I have gay friends. I am liberal as the day is long. I love to sing any and all kinds of music – yes, even bawdy musical theatre-type, although I could just as well sing opera or the blues. So I defy stereotypes. And I want to tell people all of this, but just don’t feel comfortable. Thanks for the safe space.
