I work as a veterinary technician and currently going to school to get my degree in said field and hopefully get my license to practice. We had a stray that someone found and brought in two or three weeks ago that was a victim of starvation. Seriously, she was nothing but skin and bone, looked like a skeleton. And to make things worse, she was clearly a senior dog since her face was almost completely white. Not only was she suffering from starvation for so long, but she had a stomach ulcer, infected ears and the starvation caused some neurologic issues to where at first she wasn’t even sure how to eat food! We thought that, since no one was claiming her as her owner, that we were going to turn her around and find her a good home to spend the rest of her days at. However, a middle aged women call the clinic not long ago claiming that this dog happened to be her father’s (who is elderly and in the hospital apparently) dog and she would come pick her up and bring the dog to her brother’s house to spend the rest of her days at. Now, I can understand that sometimes the elderly who can’t take care of themselves may unintentionally do the same to any pets they may have, but the whole situation is fishy. This dog, who had been starved for YEARS (not weeks or months) had 0% muscle, she couldn’t even walk when we first got her! There IS NOT WAY IN HELL that dog just ran away from home, got lost, and ended up the way she did. She was dumped…plain and simple. Now this woman apparently was obviously pissed that we had her for some strange reason, according to our receptionist and she just got the dog and left without a thank you or anything. The receptionist said she didn’t even seen concerned at all about this poor dog’s condition! I’m really worried and suspicious that this woman was angry that this dog she possibly dumped (because her sorry a** didn’t want to take care her) was found and she took her and dumped her again somewhere. Just thinking about it makes my cry and it really s**** that this kind of stuff happens in this career I’m pursuing. People are so cruel, heartless, and evil to all other creatures that we share this planet with and it makes me sick. If you’re someone who thinks animals are just here for us to use and it’s okay to treat them as such in such a cruel, torturous manner….I have no respect for you as a human being and you should be ashamed of yourself, just like this woman. Now I could be wrong and I’d like to think that she was telling the truth about where this poor dog will be……but I can’t trust anyone. I honestly want to go driving throughout the whole county and look for this dog again if she was dumped a second time. Sorry for the long post, but my heart is truly broken over b******* like this and I just needed to let it all out :'(
