Today a Muslim man was in my office. He was a very humble and polite recently retired man. He and his wife came to this country over 40 years ago for school on visas. When they were done they intended to go back home, but the Government asked them to stay. They took a chance and stayed and had a daughter. His wife became a surgical assistant. He opened his own company. They raised their daughter and put her through university. Then they helped her get her first house. They own their own home and an income property. They truly sound like incredible people that have lived a great life, and worked hard. But, here’s the thing. He didn’t have to tell me all this. It wasn’t relevant to why he was in my office. I felt he was telling me (white person) to set himself and his wife apart from the non-peace loving Muslims. Almost like I’d automatically assume he was a radical. Which I didn’t. It’s hate like I see on this page that makes good people like this man feel as if they need to explain themselves even to strangers. What a sad world.
