I just found out that my state no longer funds birth control programs. I’m a married white woman in my late 20s but we are struggling financially, I’m disabled and unable to work (still fighting the system to try and get disability- I’m legally blind, can’t drive, can’t see anything more than five feet away and can’t read my computer screen without being at most 6 inches away from it). Needless to say there’s no way we could support a child, so I’ve been really thankful that I was able to get birth control at no cost before.

I just called to schedule an appointment to refill them and get an exam, and I was told that I’ll probably have to pay the full cost since I’m not on disability/medicaid or welfare. My husband’s check stub *might* allow me to be on the ‘sliding scale payment plan’ but I’m highly doubtful. We can’t afford it. Right now we are stretched thin financially, actually we are still trying to catch up from a recent setback. Our rent is already past due and we’re still $100 short of having it covered in the bank, not to mention the other bills that will be due next week that we have no way to pay. We don’t even have $20 extra right now.

This is b*******. Is THIS what our ‘wonderful’ president’s healthcare bill is doing? We already don’t have health insurance and can’t afford the ‘cheap’ insurance offered by the government. But we don’t qualify for assistance. So we’re just going along, PRAYING we don’t get injured or sick and need medical attention.
