I was in an elevator the other day. I am a white, mid-30’s woman. A slim black woman, similar age, was in the elevator, and then another slim, older black woman came into the elevator, saying ” can I fit? there are no fat people in here, right?” During the elevator ride down, she talked about how she didn’t like fat people, and both of the women (apparently did not know each other), both chatted about, and degraded “fat” people. I was surprised, and didn’t know what to say, so I smiled and said nothing. As a white, slim woman, I felt weird and uncomfortable, but also due to the recent racial climate, didn’t want to argue with them. It was kind of s***** and horrible. I find that black people tend to be cruel and racist, much more than any white person I have ever spoken to, and often toward other blacks, depending on how “light” (“yellow”, I shudder) or “dark” they are. Weird that whites are singled out. Ok, sure, I accept that white people shoot up malls. But most of us walk on eggshells most of the time to make up for our forefathers’ mistakes. Other people of color find it entirely appropriate to disparate other races, often including their own. It’s kind of gross.
