My parents keep trying to force me into their tired religious beliefs. They constantly belittle my life because im lesbian and they dont care at all that they are making me feel like the only relief is to end my life. Im 27.

  • This maybe hard to swallow, but if your family can’t accept you unconditionally, you should cut them out of your life. You’re an adult and deserve to be loved unconditionally by supportive family and they should want you to be happy. If they can’t do that and they’re making you unhappy, then they’re toxic to your mental health and well-being. Sometimes blood isn’t thicker than water. Time to cut ties, I’m 34 and I did the same thing to specific family members, that were contaminating my life like a disease. Good luck

  • Blood ain’t always family. Cut ties and find yourself a real one full of people who love you for who you are.

  • From one lesbian to another: they may come around. It’s possible, but always keep in mind that they may not. You need to be your most authentic self, this is the only life you get, there are so many better things you can do with it than end it. Push a little further, a little while longer, get yourself a girlfriend, a good job, a good hobby. If your parents don’t accept it, then screw em, you can still love them if you want to, but focus on being YOU and how you can be the most candid version of yourself. Let em yell and lecture, and take it with a grain of salt, even if you need to defend yourself, do so proudly. Just don’t let your parents change or prevent you from being who you are, and loving that person.
