Sometimes I just want to scream “I’M AUTISTIC!” in someone’s face. I’m high functioning and I was raised and treated just like my siblings, so I learned the hard way how to act normal. I take care of children, and the father of an autistic child to told me ” I hope he grows out of it”. I want to yell at him.

  • As one who was also diagnosed, I say normal is abnormal. Who says they’re normal? I look at my personality like railroad tracks: I didn’t build em, I didn’t decide where and how well, I’m just the beat up little locomotive forced to haul it’s tons of baggage over em. To me, normal is following the tracks and being damned careful not to lose the load. “normal” would be a bunch of idiot hotrodders not following the road and zipping all over my tracks. They’ll block the line, dare me to come along and smash em, and when I finally do, somehow it’s my fault. Seems like the very definition of insanity to me. Point is; outnumbering us doesn’t make them the norm. Fifty million maniacs are still maniacs.
